The Day Camp Unit Leader serves as a professional role model for our campers and counselors by leading through example and guiding campers and counselors.At YMCA day camps, we create an exciting, safe environment for kids to have an unforgettable summer of fun. Job Summary and Key Accountabilities:
Lifeguard is a key member of the YMCA Aquatics team responsible for monitoring swimming areas and providing assistance and protection to users of the pool and aquatic facility as outlined under the standards of the YMCA. This includes providing a high level of customer service at all times and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment that ensures the physical and emotional well-being of members and guests.
Scope of Responsibilities:
- Provides a high-level of customer service to members, program participants and guests at all times
- Supervises and guards the pool and aquatic facility and ensures participants adhere to all YMCA aquatic guidelines and procedures.
- Examines injured persons and administers first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, if necessary, using training and medical supplies and equipment.
- Rescues distressed persons, using rescue techniques and equipment.
- Contacts emergency medical personal in case of serious injury.
- Actively participates in obtaining further water safety certifications.
- Attends all in-service trainings and staff meetings as scheduled by supervisor or center leadership team.
- Supports the mission and vision as assigned.
- Maintains job-related certifications and documents completion of certifications in the HR information system
Child Abuse Prevention:
Supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
- Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
- Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
- Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
- Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
Commitment to Inclusion:
Supports the YMCA’s commitment to inclusion of all members as required by Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Job responsibilities may include implementing program modifications for persons with cognitive, behavioral or physical disabilities, including but not limited to the injection of medical glucagon to members with Type 1 diabetes in emergency situations. Appropriate training and development will be provided to YMCA team members based on your role and responsibilities.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must successfully complete the YMCA’s Aquatics Academy training program resulting in certification or have current YMCA or American Red Cross certification as well as current First Aid, AED, CPR and Oxygen Administration certifications.
- Physical mobility to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200 lb. person and meet other physical requirements required for job certification.
- Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations in order to assure the safety of all swimmers.
- Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.
- Demonstrates evidence of YMCA Team competencies in previous experience or practice
