The YMCA is hiring a Computer Lab Attendant/ Digital Navigator for the McCormick Y!
Starting salary: $17.50 per hour
Under the direct supervision of center leadership and in collaboration with the Vice President, Community Innovation and Impact , the Digital Navigator is responsible for providing excellent customer service and technical support to lab visitors as well as monitoring computer lab usage to ensure that policies are followed by visitors. Center-based computer labs are open to the public and serve community members. Some community members who visit may be looking to gain new computer skills or learn how to complete specific tasks on the computer. Computer labs are a part of broader digital inclusion efforts undertaken by the Y and other stakeholders in the Chicago area as a part of the association’s Digital Equity portfolio. The aim of these digital inclusion efforts is to ensure that all Chicagoans have the means and skills to engage with digital resources that support their well-being. This position is fully grant funded, and as such, employment in this role is contingent upon the Y’s receipt of grant funding to continue computer lab operations.
Scope of Responsibility:
- Monitor computer lab usage to ensure policies are followed
- Keep track of the number of visitors using the lab for grant reporting
- Respond quickly to inquiries from lab visitors about computer usage, connecting visitors to the Y’s
- Community Help Desk when more advanced technical assistance is needed.
- Provide technical support to computer lab visitors in accessing online digital skills assessments and
lessons offered through the Northstar and Coursera Online Learning systems.
- Proctor Northstar digital skills assessments when lab visitors have an interest in earning official
northstar certifications.
- When possible, provide opportunities for visitors to develop technical skills and knowledge.
- Complete Northstar digital skills assessments and online learning to familiarize oneself with the
- Northstar system and potentially build one’s own digital skills.
- Assist with outreach efforts to increase community awareness about the lab and other resources
supporting digital learning.

Scope of Responsibilities:
Engaging and Supporting Participants:
- Demonstrates supportive behavior and role models positive appropriate interactions
- Maintains in-person contact with each active participant on a weekly basis, at minimum

Scope of Responsibilities
Member Engagement
- Leads the center’s front desk team and drives a front desk culture which supports membership acquisition, engagement, and best-in-class member service. Implements customer service standards and continuous improvement efforts. Guides team on YMCA policies, procedures, and guidelines.

The Program Site Director is responsible for the execution and operations of the YSVP (Youth, Safety, Violence, Prevention) programs. This position will manage a portfolio of programs and services that advance YSVP’s mission to reduce the cycle of harm that interrupts healthy adolescent development in specific communities. Program Directors work directly with identified and referred youth, who have experienced high levels of trauma and qualify for our secondary and tertiary prevention services. The target age for services is youth ages 13-18.
Under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager for YSVP, the Program Director will supervise the service provision, documentation and reporting of his or her direct reports and will manage all documentation and reporting as it relates to the youth served directly. This will also entail monitoring and assurance that the program’s deliverables are in compliance with the stated deliverables. This position is a component of Youth Safety and Violence Prevention’s overall outreach and programming efforts. The Program Site Director has experience working with and engaging “at risk” adolescents and young adults in structured leadership development activities.
Scope of Responsibilities:
Program Implementation
Monitor and manage program implementation for assigned community and be the primary contact for YSVP programming at the site. Utilize a trauma informed approach and trauma informed practices to support youth in group and individual settings. This includes:
- Developing and maintaining a directory of community services for referral purposes
- Developing and maintaining community-based partnerships
- Managing site-based program evaluation and assessment
- Developing and implementing community events throughout the year that meet the needs of the community and developing positive connections between YSVP and the community that we serve
- Communicating importance of trauma informed approaches in YSVP’s work to multiple audiences.
Team Leadership and Management
Identifies, manages and motivates a high-performing team that accomplishes program objectives. This includes:
- Providing leadership to Outreach team members to enhance staff learning, career development and operational effectiveness.
- Hiring, onboarding and training team members and ensuring ongoing training and development in accordance with program standards and staff development plans.
- Establishing, monitoring and evaluating team goals and performance standards. Evaluates team members and provides coaching and intervention as necessary. Coaches, mentors, and develops team members to optimize performance.
- Manages time and attendance for current staff, ensuring that time is accurately recorded in the HRIS system according to YMCA time and attendance policies.
- Uses data to assess performance of team and modify service provisions as needed to achieve the best possible outcomes for youth
- Recruit and support site-based volunteers
YSVP Operations
- Act as a public face of the program for media, meetings and events in the community
- Maintain regular communications with the Executive Director of YSVP regarding funding opportunities, obstacles to contract deliverables, status of community coalitions, and other programmatic needs
- Ensure documentation of program information into appropriate data tracking system (CitySpan or other systems as required)
- Prepare and submit weekly and monthly reports per contract or as requested by supervisor
- Ensure tracking and monthly reporting of all in-kind match contributions including personnel, goods, and services
- Assist in the creation and implementation of policies and procedures which strengthen the YSVP program
- Supports the mission and vision of the YMCA and YSVP as assigned.
Outreach Direct Service
Provides direct service to youth, acting as a mentor/case manager to a set caseload of youth. This includes:
- Identify and recruit youth with a trauma history to participate in YSVP programming; practice relentless outreach to ensure continued participation
- Establish positive and constructive relationships and serve as a positive role model. This includes frequent contact with youth through home visits, relationship building activities and programming at YSVP program sites.
- Provide case management and mentoring services (i.e. observation, home visits, case notes, case reviewing, and dialogue with school, adults/ youth) guided by “youth-driven” services and goal plans
- Act as a general advocate for individual youth as it pertains the legal system and related subsidiaries
- Facilitate peace circles/restorative justice and support staff in leading curriculum-guided group sessions
- Provide structured recreational activities utilizing facilities such as the YMCA membership centers and other neighborhood facilities
Minimum and Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice or related and/or equivalent experience; Master’s degree preferred.
- Three or more years’ experience in leadership role managing contracted program operations including case management, youth advocacy, mentoring, and/or programming. Experience with children and families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds are essential.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.
- Ability to support a diverse, high-performing team including identifying, selecting, onboarding, developing and evaluating team members.
- Knowledge and experience with the impact of trauma on youth including trauma-informed practices and programming.
- Must be minimum of five years older than youth served through the program.

Responsibilities
- Survey buildings and repair mechanical systems to ensure they are consistent with health and safety standards
- Perform maintenance of electrical systems (replace light bulbs and sockets, clean and repair circuit breaker panels etc.)
- Assist in the setup of ventilation, refrigeration and other systems and conduct repairs when necessary
- Maintain heating and plumbing systems to ensure functionality
- Inspect alarm systems (fire, protection) and schedule repairs when needed
- Perform manual repairs when necessary (fix locks, replace windows etc.)
- Undertake activities of pest control such as spraying insecticide
- Conduct general upkeep procedures (e.g. landscaping) and other tasks as assigned (painting, carpentry etc.)

Requirements & Preferred Qualifications for this position are:
- Must be at least 17 years of age and/or 5 years older than the oldest child that participates in the program and meet program requirements for education and/or credentials.
- H.S. Diploma or GED along with related college coursework and/or equivalent experience in: childcare, education, recreation or related program. Additional educational or experience requirements may be required based on program license requirements.
- Must have the proven ability to establish constructive relationships and interact as a positive role model for youth and staff demonstrating the values of respect, responsibility, caring and honesty.
- Commitment to and passion for the YMCA of Metro Chicago’s mission is required including a passion for working with diverse youth.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely present ideas and concepts and tailor communication to multiple audiences.
