The STEM Director facilitates execution of the STEM programming across the Association including School-aged and Day Camp operations and other youth programming. This person is responsible for assisting in the development and scaling of high-quality STEM-focused programming across the Association, including developing operational supports, curriculum resources, identifying and supporting local STEM specialists, and providing ongoing professional development for staff.
Scope of Responsibilities:
- Contributes to the Association-wide vision for STEM teaching and learning in current or new programming
- With guidance, partners with the Learning and Evaluation Department to create curricula and staff programming guides for drop-in workshops, weekly tech clubs, and other tech-based programming for children and teens
- Assist in design and layout of the makerspaces based on program goals and desired outcomes
- Coordinates tech-programming logistics including the purchasing, organization, distribution, and tracking of tech materials
- Assists in planning, producing, publicizing, and conducting youth programs aligned to the YMCA strategy and connected learning models, incorporating STEM, audio-visual and literary elements in event formats that include maker and digital skill-building workshops and related programs for youth
- Supports and leads the center-based STEM Specialists in their work as instructional coaches and champions of STEM practices in locations
- Develops and models effective coaching relationships
Provides guidance and resources to support Specialists in implementing meaningful coaching cycles
- Demonstrates and creates a tinkering and design thinking environment
- Monitors and provide feedback to Specialists to support continuous improvement
- Coordinates and facilitates ongoing and responsive professional learning for staff
- Visit schools and other community organizations to give presentations promoting YMCA services to youth and families
- Visits tech clubs and drop-in workshops to provide pedagogical and technical guidance and support to staff
- Liaises with internal stakeholders to support our programs including IT, Communications, and Purchasing

- Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field, Master’s preferred

Lifeguard is a key member of the YMCA Aquatics team responsible for monitoring swimming areas and providing assistance and protection to users of the pool and aquatic facility as outlined under the standards of the YMCA. Swim Instructor is a key member of the Aquatics team that provides group and private swim lessons for program participants that adheres to YMCA standards for curriculum, instructional quality, safety, certifications and other requirements. This includes ensuring an outstanding experience for each program participant and creating safe, welcoming environment that ensures the physical and emotional well-being of program participants, members and guests.
Scope of Responsibilities:
- Effectively implements YMCA swim curricula for various levels and populations depending on class needs as outlined by the standards of the YMCA.
- Prepares progressive lesson plans to enhance the experience of program participants.
- Prepares reports and maintains records, including attendance records, skills sheets, progress reports, etc.
- Enforces aquatic rules and policies by maintaining constant surveillance of class participants.
- Acts as a primary responder in case of injury, accident, or illness in pool area and provides backup to lifeguards as needed in emergencies and crowd control.

Job Summary and Key Accountabilities:
The Youth Development Instructor is responsible for implementing and adapting a wide variety of enrichment activities for grades K-8. The YDI works with a specific group of youth according to schedule including interactive and enriching social and cultural experiences, ensuring the safety and security of program participants; and operating in accordance with the State of Illinois licensing regulations and the YMCA philosophy and goals.

- Must be able to work a full day schedule during CPS and Charter schools closing for breaks and holidays.

Job Summary:
The Teacher Aide provides support to teaching team in planning and implementing learning experiences for children; maintaining classroom; and managing children in accordance with the YMCA goals and curriculum plan.
Scope of Responsibilities:
- Support plans of effective child development program to meet the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of each child enrolled.

Job Summary:
The Early Head Start Teacher II provides effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning, assessment, evaluation and related research for children ages 6 weeks-3 years old. The Early Head Start Teacher II is responsible for providing developmentally appropriate learning experiences, supervision of children assigned in the classroom, and providing a supportive and positive classroom climate, while ensuring the individual needs of the children are met as mandated by Head Start, NAEYC, federal, state and local standards.
Scope of Responsibilities:
- Provide a positive climate, responsive care giving and continuity to help children develop secure relationships while focusing on the children’s social and emotional well-being.
- Work with assigned group of infants, toddlers and two’s, applying best practices for care and physical safety
- Facilitate and nurture the development of each child’s self-esteem, trust and growing autonomy.
- Integrate and assist children with special needs.
- Partner with families and encourage parent involvement through a variety of methods (e.g. classroom parent meetings & events and parent/child home activities).
- Obtain families’ social-cultural background information and designs meaningful learning experiences for children based on their findings.
- Incorporate rigorous academic instruction for English Language Learners (ELLs) that will support children’s academic, intellectual and linguistic development.

Lesson Planning and Classroom Management
- Create and maintain an engaging learning environment that encourages exploration, interactions with adult caregivers, and independence
- Provide designated areas in the classroom to exhibit displays of families, children and their work.
- Develop lesson plans with goals, objectives and outcomes that integrate health, nutrition, mental health, disabilities and parent activities.
- Provide age appropriate and individual learning experiences that that incorporates social emotional and cognitive development, early language and literacy, physical development and integration of the arts.

Assessments, Evaluations, and Reports
- Administer and accurately document initial and ongoing development using required screening tools at established intervals.
- Observe children to evaluate and record their progress, recommend and complete referrals for further evaluation.
- Participate in initial and additional internal and external staffing with parent and FSW on all children suspected and/or identified with special needs.
- Establish and maintain a system for collecting and managing daily observations of children.
- Complete observation and quarterly assessment of individual children according to methods of Teaching Strategies GOLD.
- Generate and complete reports using them for planning and sharing information with others.
- Maintain up-to-date child education file and portfolio progress and development.
- Enter individual child and classroom data into appropriate information systems according to established guidelines and timeframes.
- Complete and timely submit required paperwork (e.g. health check, attendance, meals, communication logs, lesson plans, and monthly reports).

Job Summary:
The Early Head Start Teacher II provides effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning, assessment, evaluation and related research for children ages 6 weeks-3 years old. The Early Head Start Teacher II is responsible for providing developmentally appropriate learning experiences, supervision of children assigned in the classroom, and providing a supportive and positive classroom climate, while ensuring the individual needs of the children are met as mandated by Head Start, NAEYC, federal, state and local standards.

The Front Desk Customer Service staff will interact with the members and up hold the member experience standards. Job Summary and Key Accountabilities
The Youth Development Director is accountable for ensuring that the early learning and youth development programs including summer camp, drop-in childcare, before-and-after school care, and teen programming accomplish program objectives and meet the needs of the youth and families we serve in accordance with all applicable licensing and funding regulations. The role is responsible for optimizing program enrollment and revenue, managing program expenses, enhancing the member/participant experience and member retention through , developing staff and ensuring a safe environment for all members, participants and staff.

Member Experience and Program Management
- Increases member/participant connection and commitment to YMCA programs and ensures the member/participant experience is consistent, integrated and aligned to YMCA goals for member experience, engagement and retention.
- Addresses members’ and prospective members’ inquiries. Identifies and promotes key drivers of a successful member experience. Adapts and creates tools and processes to enhance member experience.
- Monitors program registration goals to understand trends and identify means for development. Adapts and customizes program portfolio to meet community needs. Optimizes program capacity and enrollment goals.

- Promotes programs in the community through multiple channels.

- Oversees maintenance of table files, program guides and online registration site to ensure accurate information is advertised.

- Identifies, escalates and rectifies potential risks that could threaten the safety, health or well-being of members, participants or employees.

- Assume joint share of classroom team to maintain a safe, clean, environment, and practice good personal hygiene and frequent hand washing.
- Assist with completion of classroom inventory quarterly and the selection of materials and equipment to support instruction and children’s learning.
Assist in Evaluations, Assessments, and Reports
- Timely and accurately administer required screenings.
- Observe, document and assess children’s health, skills, behavior, growth and development.
- Follow established system for collecting and managing daily observations of children, including weekly entries on-line.
- Take pictures and maintain anecdotal notes, written observations, and other approved forms of documentation for each child.
- Maintain documentation of each child’s progress and growth according to Head Start guidelines and the methods of Teaching Strategies GOLD.
- Input classroom data into appropriate information systems, as required (TSG, Home Visits and Parent/Teacher Conferences).
- Adhere to timelines and complete child assessment information, at least four times annually.
- Complete all necessary paperwork for classroom activities including attendance and meal count sheets.
- Assume joint share of the classroom team to maintain and ensure accurate and up to date education folders and portfolios for each child.
- Observe and respect issues of confidentiality.
Supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
- Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
- Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
- Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
- Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
Requirements:
- Must have CDA credential or Gateways to Opportunity Level 2 Infant/Toddler credential or Associate’s Degree and minimum of 2 classes in infant/toddler development depending on program requirements
- If required , must obtain a minimum of Gateways Level 2 Infant Toddler Certification within first 12 months of employment
- Experience working with children 6 weeks to 3 years old
- Demonstrated understanding of child growth and development
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely present ideas and concepts and tailor communication to different audiences
- Ability to build rapport with children, parents and families of high risk
- Continuous learner who leverages opportunities for learning and applies new knowledge and skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple, competing priorities to maximize personal and team effectiveness.
- Ability to keep detailed, accurate and complete records and documentation as needed.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, email and the ability to learn and adapt to new technology.
- Demonstrates evidence of YMCA Leader competencies in previous experience or practice.
- Must pass DCFS background check and maintain clearance throughout employment
- Willing and able to work flexible hours, potentially including some evenings and Saturdays; hours may be adjusted to accommodate program needs
- Occasional travel in the Chicagoland area may be required for training
