Make sure accompanying staff members have necessary first aid information, daily and pm medication, first aid orientation and health forms. - Contact parents of camper requiring physician's attention, overnight stay in health center or whenever is deemed necessary. - Issue written health information to all staff of campers requiring medication and special allegories so that staff are aware. - Report any incident to the camp director. All incident reports are filled out by camp director. - Observe and advise camp director and staff on health, disease, sanitation and cleanliness issues. Make a Difference in Your Community!   Camp Health Officer - Camp Independence   A special place for children and young adults with spina bifida and other neurological disabilities.   The camp program is designed to teach life skills, foster independence, build confidence, teach leadership and increase self-esteem. Located near Fox Lake in northern Illinois, Camp Independence offers one-week residential camp sessions in the summer and weekend winter retreats.   The camp is situated on 300 acres, and a 90-acre, semi-private lake called Fish Lake. The Camp Independence building is a state-of-the-art facility with two dormitory-style sleeping rooms, several fully-accessible bathrooms, and a full basement for activities and storm shelter. Meals are served in the beautiful Great Room or in the main lodge. Campers will enjoy three nutritionally balanced, “camper friendly” meals daily and an evening snack. Camp MacLean - Diswasher Opportunity    Under the direct supervision of the camp food service manager or cook, assure that the kitchen department has clean & sanitized dishware, utensils and cookware. Dishwashers set and clear tables as assigned. YMCA Camp Duncan   YMCA Camp Duncan is located about an hour northwest of Chicago on beautiful Fish Lake. Camp Duncan is approximately 300 acres and sits on a lake with boats, a blob, archery, climbing tower, high ropes course/zipline, hiking trails, campfires, teams course, soccer fields, basketball courts, gaga pits, and so much more!   Working at Camp Duncan will give you a look at how a year round camp operation functions, how to plan and host customer groups, and teach you over 25 outdoor education classes and recreation programs. The Group Services Department serves around 20,000 diverse customers a year.   Job Summary:   The Outdoor Education staff will facilitate program areas and teach outdoor education classes to school groups, girl/boy scouts, church groups, and many other different customers. Training will include: how to teach outdoor education, facilitate classes, risk management, marketing, budget, and customer service. Ideal candidates will be committed, energetic, and enthusiastic individuals that are looking for a positive and rewarding experience.   Being flexible to work various hours which are dependent on customer needs is very important. Some days start very early, and some run late. Staff must live on the camp property for the position. Room and board is provided at Camp Duncan, in addition to a weekly stipend.   Camp Duncan is a place to learn, grow, and make memories that will last a lifetime!   Scope of Responsibilities: Staff will gain the following skills: - Complete trainings and certifications in First Aid/CPR, Risk Management, Customer Service, Child Abuse Prevention, Leadership Development, Classroom Management, Policies and Procedures, and the overall function of the camp. - Learn to teach over 25 outdoor education classes. - Develop and design classes to meet the needs of diverse groups. - Learn to facilitate at the archery range, climbing tower, team course. high ropes course, waterfront, and more. - Grow your communication and leadership skills by working with all departments at camp, including kitchen, maintenance, and resident/day camp. - Assist in marketing, budget implementation, and fundraising events. Child Abuse PreventionSupports the commitment of the YMCA to child abuse prevention and safety by: - Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor. - Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children. - Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor. - Completing all child abuse prevention training as required. Requirements: - Ability to perform moderate physical activity and adapt to changing work conditions. - Work with diverse groups of people, and work with minimal supervision. - Strong organizational skills.  - Strong ability to communicate effectively with others. - Must be able to commit to one season and commit to working 40+ hours a week. - Must be willing to live on camp grounds for the season. - Must be willing and flexible to work various hours/shifts including nights and weekends.
