    Job Summary:


    Under the direct supervision of the Day Camp Director/ Program Director, the Day Camp Unit Leader/ Adventure Director is responsible for overseeing and running a day camp unit and organizing, implementing and safely running all day camp ropes programs.


    Scope of Responsibilities: 

    • To organize, supervise, and implement safe and fun adventure programming.
    • Have a current facilitator ropes course certification by the camp's high ropes vendor of choice or equivalent and lifeguard certification.
    • Maintain high levels of standards and enforce strict safety standard rules at High Ropes, Climbing Tower, etc.
    • Responsible for safety checks, cleanliness and upkeep, and care of ropes equipment, and shed. Responsible for security of the ropes.
    • Works with day camp director to help schedule staff and camper groups for adventure programming. Lead and schedule adventure programming such as high ropes, climbing tower, blobbing, hay rides, orienteering, star lab, outdoor education, etc.
    • Maintain inventory and organization of all adventure program equipment.
    • Take part in early drop off and late pick up on a rotating basis with program staff team. Be an active participant on Program Staff Team.
    • Responsible to keep unit under control and deal with daily issues and concerns that arise. Assist in planning and running of all camp activities, including theme days.
    • You are responsible for keeping camp looking nice. Pick up any litter you see in camp.
    • You are responsible for the safety and upkeep of the equipment. If you use it, put it back. If it is broken, report it to the program director. If you run out, report it to the program director. If it is unsafe, do not use it and report it to the program director.
    • Responsible to call in daily to Camp Director while out of camp on trips.
    • Organize, supervise and implement safe, fun high ropes, teams, climbing tower programs. Maintain high levels of safety and enforce strict safety rules at all ropes courses.
    • Assist with over-all supervision of the counselors.
    • Assist with the over-all functions of the camp daily schedule.
    • Serve as a positive role model for staff and campers set example of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
    • Display good leadership. Provide leadership to staff training
    • Serve as a support and mentor to counselors.
    • Assist in conducting mid-summer and end summer evaluations for counselors.



    • Prior summer camp experience
    • Proven abilities in working well with children and camp organization
    • Experience and skills in a variety of camp activities High Ropes certification or experience preferred Lifeguard certification preferred
    • Current certifications in CPR and First Aid (within the past year)
    • Ability to communicate and train staff and campers in safety regulations and emergency procedures. Ability to observe camper behavior and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
    • Ability to identify and respond to hazards in camp; such as emergency plan implementation (fire, evacuation, illness, injury).
    • Ability to work with different age and skills levels of staff and campers.
    • Able to plan, organize and implement camp adventure programs and activities.
