Job Summary:

 

Under the direct supervision of the Day Camp Director/Program Director, the summer day camp

Arts and Crafts Director is responsible for organizing and implementing arts and crafts program daily.

 

Scope of Responsibilities:

 

  • Communicate with Day Camp Director/Program Director what arts and craft projects will be offered each week.
  • Supervise counselors assigned to craft dept.
  • Organize crafts for choice time and morning craft time.
  • Maintain craft inventory and let Day Camp Director/Program Director know when supplies are needed. Share OD responsibilities.
  • Assist with over-all supervision of the counselors.
  • Assist with the over-all functions of the camp daily schedule. Distribute finished crafts to campers at the end of each day/session. Make sure all projects are finished to the best of your ability.
  • Maintain and organize craft area and closet keeping craft room neat and clean. Inventory and shut down the craft room at the end of the summer.
  • Serve as a positive role model for staff and campers set example of Caring,
  • To act as a resource person for the counselors and other management team staff.
  • Provide leadership to staff training.
  • Lead and implement day camp activities with other management team members. Serve on management team, supervise counselors and share OD responsibility. Serve as a support and mentor to counselors.
  • Assist in running and organization of morning meetings.
  • Maintain high levels of safety standards and enforce all rules for campers and staff. Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Deal with any staff management issues promptly- You are committing to report any staff issues to the Camp Director immediately. You are expected to not ask your staff do to anything that you would not do yourself.
  • Assist in conducting mid-summer and end summer evaluations for counselors. You are responsible for handling stressful situations with campers. You are responsible for reporting any form of abuse to the Day Camp Director immediately. Provide assistance with theme days or any other special events.
  • Run staff meetings each day in your specific pavilion, collect attendance from staff and lead the pledge and songs.
  • Prepare crafts for activity periods, i.e. face painting, friendship bracelets, etc. and keep stocked up as necessary.

Requirements:

 

  • Minimum age of 19 years old.
  • Prior camp experience.
  • Experience in teaching skills with children's arts and crafts projects. Ability to organize and direct several arts and crafts classes at one time.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications (within the past year)
  • Ability to train staff.
  • Ability to observe camper behavior and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
  • Ability to identify and respond to hazards in camp; such as emergency plan implementation
  • (fire, evacuation, illness, injury).
  • Ability to work with different age and skills levels of staff and campers.
  • Able to plan, organize and implement camp arts and craft programs and activity.
