The Assistant Program Coordinator assists in the creation, planning and implementation of recreational activities. Under the direction of the Camp Director & Program Director, this position is responsible for assistance in all aspects of Resident Camp including Evening/Weekend Programming, Camper behavior and homesickness, implementing and designing programs and staff scheduling.
Ensure the safety of all campers and staff.
Establish positive relationships with each camper and staff in your program area.
Help campers and other staff members grow in Mind, Body and Spirit.
Serve as a role model for campers and other staff members.
Take advantage of teachable moments each day, to help campers learn character values such as Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility.
Provide a positive, exciting and fun environment for all campers.
Promote and demonstrate stewardship towards the land.
Attend staff meetings to discuss program plans, give input and voice concerns.
Assist the Camp Director and Program Director in organizing the over-all program structure.
Assist in driving the vans for any out-of-camp trips and help the Teen Leadership Coordinator and Adventure Trips Coordinator with coordination of drivers for off-site trips.
Assist with Check In and Check Out responsibilities, especially but not limited to, bus check in/out at Chicago Centers, Medical Forms, Medications, Snacks, Campers Forms, and organizing staff in day of responsibilities.
Serve as a positive role model for staff and campers setting an example of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
Act as a resource person for the counselors and other management team staff.
Provide leadership to staff through staff training.
Lead and run evening activities with the assistance of other program staff team members.
Responsible for camper discipline with the assistance of the Camp and Program Directors.
Responsible for the supervision and up keep of camper discipline records.
Serve on the program staff team, supervise counselors, and share the Coordinator of the Day Responsibilities.
Assist with the collection of mail and make sure items are received by campers in a timely fashion.
Update photos on Flickr, and assist Program Director with social media pieces like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Organize and run skill period sign-up.
Assist with scheduling for the following week regarding ALL schedules, skill period rotations, daily staff schedules, etc.
Lead camp clean up on check out days & check cabins and program areas after clean up.
Organize camper rules on all check-in days.
Serve as support and mentor to counselors.
Run and organize morning breakfast meetings.
Maintain high levels of safety standards and enforce all rules for campers and staff.
Maintain a positive attitude and refrain from behavior that is detrimental to the staff team and staff morale.
Communicate with all levels of staff to enable clear expectations.
Deal with any staff management issues promptly.
Commit to reporting any staff issues to the Camp Director immediately.
Assist the Camp Director and Program Director with mid-summer and end of summer evaluations for all counselors.
Must be 21 years of age. 3 years of college or equivalent experience. At least 1 summer prior camp experience. Prove abilities to working with children and the camp organization. Experience and skills in variety of camp activities. Ability to lead and direct staff.
